release list: be brave and give a damn
~ 2 minutes to read
I'm currently taking (and thoroughly enjoying) a course called Sharing Space Camp by Kening Zhu. One of the many many wonderful concepts we've learned about is a Release List, essentially a checklist for getting you through the last 10% of releasing a piece of work to the world. I wrote a Reel Report a few weeks ago, but haven't published it yet because I've tied finishing it to also launching an online shop. So, this is my attempt to use a Release List to get both of these things out of limbo. I'll be updating this post as I work through this checklist.

task log
— 8/4
- I wrote this release list post (:
- I also added a zine to my shop and finalized some very mvp info for each product
- got pretty turned around thinking about shipping, so added that as a task to the release list; I think for now I'll only ship to the US? Debating between free shipping and setting a flat rate of $2, then maybe free with 2+ items.
— 8/5
- updated favicon on shop and blog to match
- hid the promo badges in the shop
- updated Returns/FAQ page
— 8/7
- finalized setting up free shipping for the shop (I might still change this later, but for now it feels easiest to start with)
- wrote an outro for the post + added photos of my print and linked to the product page
- scheduled the post to get published tomorrow
- gave myself a high-five
- wrote the reflections below
notes on process
what I'm proud of: I don't think I've researched something with the intent of writing about it since college? or tried to write something that wasn't primarily just for my own expression. interestingly, writing something to convey information feels more vulnerable than writing something to express myself. so, I'm proud of myself for doing that.
what to play with: I'd love for longer pieces to have a small table of content with clickable links. I'd also love to include more art or work made by other folks, like an additional reading section. I feel like there may be something to explore with the structure, maybe further separating researched learning and personal response?
